[October 19, 2012] —
At Oklahoma State University (left) Dr. Walter Bradley, professor of mechanical engineering at Baylor University, spoke to a variety of audiences.

To a group of 40 Christian faculty, Bradley spoke about the unique role that professors have on campus. To a group of 35 young faculty, he gave a synopsis of a tenure workshop. Bradley gave semester-long workshops both at Texas A & M, where he taught for 20 years, as well as at Baylor. In various engineering seminars, he presented findings from his research on using byproducts from coconut harvesting to increase the profits of some of the world’s poorest farmers. His talks were part of Faculty Commons’ efforts to be a blessing to the academy, not only in the spiritual dimension of the university, but in other areas as well.

At the University of North Texas, (right) Christian professors are reading and discussing books on how to be more effective in presenting Christ on campus. The books are Finding Common Ground by Tim Downs and Questioning Evangelism by Randy Newman. Both authors are on the staff of Campus Crusade, and both talk about making evangelism more of a dialogue. Both recommend learning to ask questions before giving answers, and using questions not only to draw out the other person, but also to help a friend think through the consequences and basis of their beliefs.

More campus news later this fall!
